Stippling is a type of shading that uses individual dots.

Benefits of Stipple Tattoos

One reason people like dotwork or stipple tattoos is some people think they are less painful than a tattoo with shading. The individual dots don't require the tattoo needles to drag across your skin. In addition, many people like the aesthetic (look) of stippling. Stippling can also just be a perfect, artistic detail on certain parts of tattoos, such as smoke or the sky.
