Whether it's a reminder of a mountain you've overcome, a tribute to someone you love, your life's purpose, or greatest motivation, word tattoos will always be timeless and personally meaningful.
If you're looking for word tattoo ideas, look no further. Here are some of our favorite ideas for how to incorporate words into your next tattoo:
A single word: Sometimes a single word can tell an entire story. A simple, intentional word can pack a big punch. Depending on the size, font, and placement, a single word can be a subtle, quiet message or a huge statement. Ideas: strength, courage, breathe, faith, wander, family, balance, gratitude, home. You could also choose a location (Colorado) or a name (your child's or pet's name, for example).
Foreign language tattoo: Another idea is to get a word or phrase in another language that reflects your heritage, travels, or personal experiences. Examples: Amor (love), carpe diem (seize the day), joie de vivre (joy of living), familia (family). Note: If you decide to get a tattoo in another language, check, double-check, and then quadruple-check that you got the translation right and that you understand the cultural context before committing.
Handwriting tattoo: A creative and personal word tattoo is to get a word or phrase in your loved one's actual handwriting. This could come from a letter, a card, a journal, or a signature. Other ideas: A child's first written words, a message from a loved one who has passed away, your spouse's handwriting.
Coordinates with words: Technically, numbers and words. Combine the geographical coordinates of a location that is important to you (hometown, birthplace, wedding location, school, favorite spot in the world) with a word or phrase that reminds you of that place.
Song lyrics tattoo: If a song particularly speaks to you or has meaning to you, consider getting a tattoo of some of the lyrics of the song.
A poem or book excerpt tattoo: A quote from a book or a line from a poem that you love also makes a great word tattoo.
Bible verse tattoo or verse from another religious text: Another popular word tattoo is to get a tattoo of a Bible verse (whether it's the verse itself of the location, like Psalm 46) or an excerpt from another religious text that is meaningful to you.
Movie quote tattoo: There are some amazing lines in movies.
Personal mantra: Sometimes the words come from within. If you have a personal mantra you try to live by, this can make a great word tattoo.
Memorial tattoo quotes: If you are getting a memorial tattoo, it might feel fitting to pair it with a quote, such as "forever in my heart," "loved beyond words," or "always with me."
Other ideas: Some other ways to incorporate words into a tattoo include:
An important date
Wedding vows
Voice recordings converted into sound waves
A clip from a family recipe in handwriting
Whatever the idea, our Fort Collins tattoo studio is happy to make those special words a part of your story forever. Book your word tattoo here.
